Come Early 11-12 to participate in a Workshop on Marx's Value Price and Profit This essay was never published till after Marx's death, but serves as a handy guide ("Addressed To Working people") to the main concepts he presented in Capital Volume One? "Production, Wages And Profit"; "Supply And Demand"; "Value And Labor"; "Laboring Power"; "Surplus Value"; "Struggle Between Capital And Labor"; and much more!
The Book Fair will also be the Grand Unveiling of the 2nd Edition of Think it Over...an introduction to the IWW. Portland Peak Oil is proud to announce a study group for the "Earth User's Guide to Permaculture" by Rosemary Morrow. The Earth User's Guide for Permaculture breaks down the complex material in simple layered concepts, building each successive chapter on the previous, and gives the reader practical "labs" to help apply the concepts--even if you are just dreaming about property and don't own any yet. There are exercises associated with each part so you can work in implementing a few designs into your life, house, nearby dirt and scattered areas around town.
It is best if you read the first few chapters in advance and we will be asking Laughing Horse Books to order books in advance and make them available at the back table on upcoming Wednesday evenings. .
The book is divided in to 6 main sections:
Part 1: An observing and appraising eye
Part 2: Ecological themes in permaculture
Part 3: Applying permaculture
Part 4: Adding resilience to design
Part 5: Social permaculture
The first two parts talk extensively on the WHY of permaculture, and the next three sections talk about HOW in detail.

The Radical History Series, Tuesday nights at Laughing Horse Books, continues, and will feature some nearly-lost bits of anarchist history, reclaimed in the context of current struggles. Shawn says: I'm just recently back in Portland, after 18 years in NW Ohio, where I worked as a bookseller and taught (cultural studies, philosophy, women's studies, intellectual history) at Bowling Green State University. I'm currently an independent scholar and archivist, affiliated with the Anarchist Studies Network, the Movement of the Libertarian Left, and, of course, Laughing Horse. I'm actively archiving public-domain material, as well as translating anarchist material from French. If you're interested in helping with that sort of project, or if you are interested in more focused study in radical history, stop by one of the sessions and we can talk.

Laughing Horse Books and Blackrose need your help! These two staples of the radical community are still facing some tough financial times. What better way to support them than with a mini anarchist book fair?!
Both stores will have a large offering of their selection, and there will be tables by local publishers and groups with fantastic literature that YOU should be reading. It will conclude at 7pm with some live music! While you're here, get some dragon noodles with ginger baked tofu or a tempeh reuben. Wash it down with some hibiscus/rosehip iced tea or...whatever else you want.
Come to this! There will be a small donation asked for at the door. The proceeds go to both Laughing Horse Books and Blackrose so that they may continue to exist for the radical community and beyond.
