Feb 5, 2007The Multnomah Villager
I got an email just now from the Contact Form, from the co-owner of the new Healthy Pets Northwest location which opened in the Village last week. I suppose I should paraphrase such things, but we were up most of the night with Jr. V, who has a serious sickness of some sort, and my [...]

PDX's Northwest industrial district was hoppin' last night for DoveLewis' Boutiques Unleashed fashion show, an event benefiting the pet hospital's Pet Loss Support Program. It wasn't just any fashion show, though: This show featured local models and their pets. As they called it, "fashion for both ends of the leash." As in dogs, cats, and?a llama. Yeah that's right. Those big horsey-lookin hairy things that are kinda related to the camel. A llama.
Emceed by Kimberly Maus and Wayne Garcia of Fox 12 news, the show filled up the cavernous Staver Locomotion warehouse in the industrial district. Animal lovers throughout the city turned out in record numbers?in the pouring rain, thank you?to celebrate that awesome unconditional love one can only get from a pet.
In one word, it was utterly adorable.
We're talking Kylee and Kelsey, a pair of three-year-old twin girls strutting the catwalk with Trixie the Yorkiepoo; 105.1's Daria O'Neill and her new husband Dallas Eliuk of the Portland LumberJax with Chanel the poodle; local fashion/culture writer Karen Vitt with her tiger cat George, and Shannon Gregory, the handler of the aforementioned 360 pound 4-H superstar Rojo the Llama. And the models?humans, dogs, cats and llamas?were dressed in fashions from local boutiques. Hello! Talk about heart-warming.
In between the fashion show, a silent and regular auction (featuring such fabulousness as a Swarovski crystal collar) raised funds for DoveLewis' Pet Loss program. DoveLewis publicist Tiffini Mueller s...

So: Healthy Pets Northwest on Alberta had some kind of issue with their credit card machine that caused them to lose some information. In response, they recharged everyone who came in during the time in question.
So: If you went into this pet store during the week of August 10th, you may want to check your bank statement, as a "mystery charge" may have suddenly appeared.
In spite of their claim that the charges for this week "didn't go through" my bank statement tells another story. Now I have to go into their store with my bank statements to prove that I've already paid. Nice.
While I've had a good experience with this pet store up until this point, their customer service has been shit for this issue. The asshole I spoke with said that there had been "a number of calls" about this issue all day, the response I got was one as if it were a customer failure - not the failure of the business. If I were unable to physically come to the store, my only other option for resolving the issue would be "mailing in your bank statements". Yikes.
Consider yourselves warned.

Remember the old state tourism motto, "Oregon: Things look different here"? When it comes to the dogs that Oregonians love, things definitely look different here. We have preferences in our pooches that are different from any other place on the planet -- and we have a rich diversity of dog subcultures that match every niche in our eclectic state.
The choices we make, and the lives our dogs lead, tell us about ourselves.
Not a Yorkie city
It turns out we like hearty dogs. The American Kennel Club recently compared the most popular breeds in the country with their registration rates in the 50 largest cities. It's true that Portlanders followed the rest of the country in selecting Labradors as the No. 1 breed (nationally, Labradors have been the most popular since 1991). But after that, we have a difference of opinion. The big story nationwide was the tiny Yorkshire terriers that catapulted their way to the AKC's No. 2 spot last year. In Portland, these little dogs with major grooming requirements were tied for tenth place.
