Burgerville

Burgerville prides itself in using the best and the freshest local ingredients. Lucky for us, those are found right here in the Northwest. We originated in 1961 in Vancouver, Washington and now have restaurants throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Now, 40 years later, the company continues to be privately owned and family run. A Northwest favorite, Burgerville proudly serves only the finest northwest ingredients in its products like the Oregon Blackberry Milkshake, Walla Walla Onion Rings and the Tillamook Cheeseburger. Burgerville, it's where you go when you know.

[OK, we're coming back from Christmas Break nice and easy, with the first of a very occasional series of "Weekend Flashbacks," lightly editted blasts from the blog past. Originally appearing on August 2, 2007, this silly item has always been one of my favorite posts ever. I have a hard time justifying that opinion, but there you go.]

Do you ever do that thing where you see or hear one word with your eyes or ears, but a different word goes into your head? Sure you do, everybody does. I'm just not articulating it very well.

(In fact, there should be a word for this phenomenon. I encourage you to suggest a word for it in the comments.)

Anyway, whenever I see a sign for the Pacific Northwest fast food chain "Burgerville," my brain thinks "Brazzaville." I know. I'm a freak. But whatever. I have created and will now share with you this guide to distinguishing between the two:

Faceoff: Brazzaville versus Burgerville

The Basics:

Brazzaville: Capital city of the Republic of Congo, population 1.5 million.
Burgerville: Chain of fast food restaurants in Oregon and Southwest Washington, with 43 stores.

What's the best treat on a cold winter day? A milkshake! No? What about a free milkshake? Maybe? On the K103 website, one of our readers found this Burgerville coupon for a free milkshake or smoothie with any purchase of equal or greater value. (Thanks Russ!) If you're not into cold drinks right now (or leaving the [...]

We had some lovely visitors this week — Mr. and Ms. A-Go-Go came all the way from Los Feliz to hang out! We went to Burgerville, Knittn Kitten, and the Little Blue Waffle Wagon, got rained on, got some sunny moments, and took some pictures... they are awesome folks. And here Jessica and I are with [...]

We are always on the lookout for the latest Burgerville Shake Coupon, and lo and behold, look what arrived in our inbox this week. Naturally, we're happy to share it with you, so that you don't have to gum up your e-mail inbox with cumbersome Burgerville flavor trend updates, you shake coupon freeloader, you.

This special coupon celebrates Fall by offering you a FREE Burgerville Caramel Apple Milkshake or Smoothie with any purchase. Boy howdy, will we! According to the written propaganda accompanying the coupon, the Fuji apples used in these new seasonal shakes and smoothies are from nearby Yakima and Columbia Valleys in Washington and are processed by Truitt Brothers, a family-owned food processing company based in Salem. If you're an ingredients nerd like us, you'll likely also be interested to know that the ice cream used in these frozen treats is from Portland's own Sunshine Dairy, and that they are slathered in Ghiradelli Caramel.

Last one to Burgerville has to dredge the fresh clots of autumn leaves out of our rain gutters while Michelle sprays you with the hose to get you ready for Winter!

If you shop regularly at New Seasons or Fred Meyer and are interested in supporting a local Waldorf school, we have SCRIP cards for sale!*

If you've never bought/heard of SCRIP - it's trading cash for a gift card of the same value and giving a profit to the school of your choice (in this case Swallowtailschool.org).**

We have extra SCRIP cards in $50 and $100 denominations on hand, and accept checks and credit cards (credit cards have a nominal processing fee). We can hand deliver (within a reasonable radius from Hillsboro) or mail upon receipt of payment.

This is a great way to support a non-profit you believe in, without putting extra money on the table - you're paying for what you already buy on a monthly basis - letting your local school benefit!

*Other vendor gift cards are available for purchase through a national website, or local vendors (Powell's, Burgerville, etc) are available on a monthly pre-order basis. Contact me for details!

**For example: You buy a $50 New Season's gift card for $50. We buy the gift card from the SCRIP service center for $48, earning a 4% "profit". Depending on the vendor, our profit percentage ranges from 3% to 48% per card. It sounds small at first, but every purchase adds up!

For more information, please email me at rosalea AT swallowtailschool DOT org.

Thanks for your support!
