It's raining in Tillamook. A lot. And there's snow in the Coast Range. A lot of it. It is because of these two weather events that They have sent me, a photographer and a satellite truck to Tillamook.

We're waiting for the water to rise.

NoPoGirl smashed through mound after mound of thigh deep powder as we careened down 1 Bowl at Mount Hood Meadows.  I had been experiencing "powder stress,"  a phenomenon that occurs when one is stressing that the ultimate powder stash lays tucked away on some undiscovered slope.  This phenomenon was exacerbated by the fact that I spent the past week standing on highway overpasses instead of enjoying the ridiculous amount of snow that's been falling in the mountains.
We looked everywhere on Christmas Day and found stash after stash of mind-boggling, perfect snow.  NoPoGirl and I decided to treat ourselves to a present and put Hazel in the ski area's daycare.

The phone rang at 4:45 AM when I was two blocks from work. "Brian," they said "it looks like the storm isn't going to hit until this afternoon. Any way you can go back home and work this afternoon?"

Yeah: no.

Luckily, Winter Armageddon 2008 arrived around 7:00 am instead. Sure, it's just a silly little dusting. It would be nothing back home in Colorado. But here in Portland people FREAK OUT when it snows.

And I'm here to watch it all happen. Wheee.

Winter? No. Not yet. They did have a gust to 70mph at the top of Mount Hood Express. But even the predicted 2 feet isn't enough to make anything up here worth skiing.

We need Winter Armegeddon 2008, but it just isn't here.
