Jen has been having great success with her new Wine & Fruit Diet!
Table For Twelve at La Calaca Comelona: The "It's Too Darn Hot, Even For a Hungry Skeleton" Edition
Michelle and I are currently battling today's soaring temperatures in the best way we know how. By eating Otter Pops while being dipped in liquid nitrogen!
Just kidding, actually Michelle went to Freddy Meyer on her lunch break and opened all the freezer doors and stood in front of them until an irritated employee chased her off, whereupon she headed over to the dairy aisle and laid atop the cheese, and is kicking her legs briskly at anyone who tries to interfere. Hope nobody's dead bent on making fondue tonight!

A few weeks ago when Jen and I were soaking in my hot tub full of ice to save ourselves from the heatwave, we were trying to decide where to take our Table for Twelve dinner. We were thinking ice cold margaritas and beautiful patios and that led us to La Calaca Comolona, a small Mexican restaurant on Belmont with a gigantic patio. Of course when the day came to go to La Calaca Comolona, there was a monsoon and it was freezing, so we all had to sit inside and try to get cozy while drinking freezing drinks.
For those of you who have never been to a Table for Twelve (shame on you), we do a survey after the dinner of all of our guests and then I use the surveys to write my review. Guests are asked to rate certain aspects of the meal/dining experience by giving a rating of 1 to 5 bottles of champagne with 5 being the best. A few of our diners have been getting up in my grid (yes grid- not grill) about not posting the overall results. So from now on you will get the average results! The survey results of our dinner at La Calaca Comolona are...

I haven't been to DF for happy hour, but went for lunch and dinner The food was good, but overpriced for what it was (as should be expected for the Pearl location). If you want better food, you should go to Nuestra Cocina on the more upscale side and La Calaca Comelona for a more casual atmosphere. -- by kpc

My friend Ansley emailed me about the Tap Project today. What a great idea!
"Beginning Sunday, March 16 through Saturday, March 22, restaurants will invite their customers to donate a minimum of $1 for the tap water they would normally get for free. For every dollar raised, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days."
Here's a list of Portland restaurants participating. Let's give them our business this next week and raise some money for clean drinking water!
¿Por Qué No?
23Hoyt Restaurant & Bar
3 Doors Down Cafe & Lounge
A Cena
Acadia Bistro
Acorn Cafe
Alberta St Oyster Bar and Gril

Last April, when I was Corporate Girl, I attended the Portland version of the epic national Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation (taste.strength.org)event on a sponsor ticket. My friends and I wore little black dresses, enjoyed exclusive access an hour before the rest of the rabble clogged the aisles, and hung out with swanky old rich folks in the sponsor's lounge, where we drank our fair share of the generous supply of Domaine Ste. Michelle wine (no trifling 1-ounce pours back in the sponsor's lounge, no way) and discussed hedge funds and the best places to stay in Martinique. Actually we mostly discussed celebrity gossip and complimented each others' shoes, but the point is that at last year's Taste of the Nation, I was Posh.
