    The University of Portland has completed a landmark agreement to purchase 35 acres of property along the Willamette River and adjacent to its 115 acre campus in north Portland. The agreement comes nearly five years since the University first publicly expressed interest in the land that had been an industrial site and owned by Triangle Park LLC.

 The $6 million transaction includes a $1.2 million deposit from Triangle Park LLC into a trust being established to help pay cleanup costs on the property.

"The possibilities this purchase creates for enriching our mission are immense," said University president, Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C. "It's looking forward through the next century. This land, which was used for heavy industry in the past, can become a living laboratory as we transform it into a jewel not only for the University but for the city, state, and region."

Note the two wedged shaped parcels on the water side of the railroad that the university owns.

Note that on the right side of the image the university's property goes up the hill along side the site of the Waud Bluff Trail.

Three quickie thoughts after reading The Oregonian's sports page this morning: 1) The University of Portland and Portland State University men's basketball teams both opened their season last week with victories over teams in higher-ranked conferences. And tonight, UP and PSU play each other. Yet their Tuesday night "Rose City Rivalry" game at PSU's Stott Center [...]

The job of the team captain is to make their teammates better and to always be ready to lead the team to victory. After being named Big Sky player of the Week, Jeremiah Dominguez proved why he is Portland State's captain.



Dominguez scored 23 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead the team in defeating the University of Portland 81-76 in front of 1,500 at the Stott Center Tuesday night.
