Here's a cool event happening Sunday featuring PMI members Shari MacDonald Strong, Kate Haas and some other cool local writers!
An Afternoon of Words and Books to Benefit Write Around Portland and Artists Needing Resources!
Portland is full of people who love books and writing, and here's a chance to enjoy both and benefit two Portland organizations--Write Around Portland and the 100th Monkey Studio. The event will take place from 2-6 p.m., August 5, 2007 at the 100th Monkey Studio, 110 SE 16th in Portland. Bring your old books (fiction, non-fiction, dictionaries, graphic novels, but NO magazines) for a book swap! While you're sorting through the choices, you'll be entertained with readings from the first two issues of the litmag, Thereby Hangs a Tale, from its Portland contributors: Viva Las Vegas, Rob Freedman, Jamie Zerndt, and Sarah Bartlett.
Children's author Michelle Freedman will read her book, The Ravioli Kid. Shari MacDonald Strong, the non-fiction editor of Literary Mama and Kate Haas, publisher of Miranda zine, will read some of their recent work, and writers from Write Around Portland will round out the afternoon!
Reading schedule:
2:30--Contributors to Thereby Hangs a Tale
3:30--Michelle Freedman reads The Ravioli Kid
4:15ish--Shari MacDonald Strong, Kate Haas, and writers from WRAP.
There will also be demonstrations in book arts, a kid's space, and snacks!
Admission is a blank journal to be donated to Write Around Portland or a small gift ($2-$20) for the 100th Monkey Studio Scholarship Fund.
