Oregon City, located at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers in NW Oregon, is the oldest incorporated city west of the Rockies. Putting aside the ongoing CRC discussion for a few minutes, an article in Thursday's Oregonian briefly mentioned that the city of Oregon City has passed a resolution endorsing the Portland-Milwaukie light-rail line LPA that was chosen by the steering committee....

In solidarity with the peace marchers in D.C., we stood with our Peace flags on the foot bridge over Hwy 99 in Oregon City. We have brought our flags there several times, but it felt like a good place to start our day. There were many positive responses from drivers. Boy was it cold though! The wind was whipping up through that tunnel and nearly ripped the flags from our hands. A young couple stopped by as they walked over to the viewpoint for the Willamette Falls. The young woman, who works for the city of Oregon City, gave me her warm mittens and thanked us for what we were doing. I was very grateful, because without those gloves, I would have had to head for warmth a lot sooner.

From Oregon City, we went to the Oak Grove Vigil on McLoughlin and were very pleased to see that there were around 35 people standing along both sides of the roads with signs and flags. As most of you know, these folks come out every Saturday from noon to 1 o'clock. We were pleased by the many positive responses we received from those driving past. One elderly man in a rather large truck gave us the thumbs down, but now I know at least one of the 28%ers. Looked a lot like Karl Rove.

The smell of money and a clear front-runner in an upcoming mayoral election bring out the blue ribbon panel folk for Sam Adam's Creative Capacity Committee.

If you've been asleep, Adams' convened several gatherings to make the case Portland's arts community, using a new set of data and arguments, could ? possibly ? make a case for support from industry and the general population.

Three committees, and a detailed web site has launched to explain the Creative Capacity strategy: (links here to PDF files) a steering committee made up mostly of business-people and various politicians, a strategy committee made up of art types and art administrators, and a coordinating committee made up of City Hall and RACC brass, with their facilitator / consultant.

So who have been selected for these committees? And perhaps more importantly, what are their affiliations? (Much of the information below is available on the Creative Capacity web site, but in a PDF form which is less searchable than a HTML web page.)

[Warning: This blog entry is a rant. I am ranting like a whining little baby (in the 4th grade sense). If you don't want to hear the rant, don't read the rant. I don't normally rant so much or even want to be a ranter, but ranting is what I'm doing. Rant imminent. Ready: Go.]

Does your 8 year old know what C4 explosives are?

Jonah and I had a tough time on Sunday in our ongoing effort to acclimate to our new location. We had a common goal, he and I: To find a playground in Oregon City (or, "the Original OC 97045" as the shirts at the local pizza joint say) on a sunny day that has a semi-modern play structure, and if we're lucky some friendly kids with whom he could play. We didn't really anticipate what would ensue.
